Profile

Dr. Zhu Jianbo is a professor at Shenzhen University. He is the deputy director of the Institute of Deep Earth Science & Green Energy, the deputy director of the National Key Laboratory of Deep Engineering Intelligent Construction and Health Operation, and the executive director of the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Deep Earth Science and Geothermal Development and Utilization. Prof. Zhu got his bachelor and master degrees from Sichuan University, and PhD degree from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL). Before joining Shenzhen University, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Assistant Professor at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Professor at School of Civil Engineering of Tianjin University.

Prof. Zhu’s works on rock dynamics, focusing on three-dimensional dynamic fracture and failure of rock masses, stress wave propagation in discontinuous rock, and mechanism and control of geological hazards in rock engineering. He led the development of the true triaxial electromagnetic Hopkinson bar, which could synchronously apply six-directional dynamic loading for the first time in the world.

Prof. Zhu has published 101 papers on JCR-Q1 journals, including 46 on Int J Rock Mech Min Sci and Rock Mech Rock Eng, with over 3,700 citations and an h-index of 37 (Web of Science core collection database). He has been authorized 55 patents in China and the U.S.

Prof. Zhu is a member of the Rock Dynamics commission of the International Society for Rock Mechanics. He works as managing editor, associate editor, editorial board member and guest editor of 6 international journals, including Rock Mech Rock Eng (Springer), Energy Reviews (Elsevier), and Geomech Geophys Geo-Energy Geo-Resour (Springer). He is the grantee/awardee of Fellowship for Prospective Researchers from Swiss National Science Foundation, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Overseas High-Level Talent Recruitment Programs (Young Thousand Talents Program) from Chinese government, State Technological Invention Award (first prize) from Chinese government, and China Youth Science and Technology Award.
