Wenbo Chen, from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, is a Distinguished Professor and doctoral supervisor. He is a recipient of the National High-Level Young Talent Program .
His research interests include transportation geotechnical engineering, low-carbon ground improvement and remediation technologies, optical fiber sensing for intelligent geotechnical monitoring, and the application of artificial intelligence and large language models in geotechnical engineering .
In recent years, he has published over 60 SCI-indexed papers, including more than 30 as first author or corresponding author. Among these, 13 papers are in authoritative geotechnical journals such as JGGEand CGJ. He has obtained National Overseas High-Level Youth Talent Program project, a General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), as well as general programs from Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipality . As PI, He has also previously secured the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) General Research Fund (GRF), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Young Researcher Supporting Scheme, and a Start-up Fund . Furthermore, he has participated as a key member in the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) and several research projects for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Civil Engineering and Development Department, Architectural Services Department, and Environmental Protection Department .
He serves as a committee member of the Highway Geotechnical Engineering Technical Committee of the World Transport Convention (WTC) and a committee member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE) Technical Committee TC101. He is also a director of the Intelligent Monitoring Branch of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering's Geology and Geotechnical Engineering division, a member of the Hong Kong Geotechnical Engineering Society (HKGES), and a youth editorial board member for Biogeotechnicsand the Journal of Changsha University of Science & Technology (Natural Science). Additionally, he acts as a review expert for research grant projects of the University of Macau, a guest editor for special issues of several international journals, and a regular reviewer for renowned journals including JGGE, EG, G&G, JRMGE, IJOG, and TG. He was awarded the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Fugro Prize in both 2022 and 2024 .
He consistently recruits doctoral and master's students, and has long-term openings for associate researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and research assistants. Students and researchers are warmly welcomed to join his team.
